The inaugural Allegiant flight from Duluth to Phoenix-Mesa's Gateway Airport takes off at 7:45 p.m. Friday. To celebrate, Allegiant will give away two pairs of roundtrip tickets.
People need to show up at the airport's Skyline Room between 4:00 and 5:30 p.m. to register. Registration closes at 5:30 p.m. sharp, and two winners will be drawn at 5:45 p.m. Each winner will receive two roundtrip tickets for the inaugural flight leaving that night at 7:45 p.m., with the return flight to Duluth on Mon., Oct. 24 at 7:05 p.m.
Duluth Airport Authority Executive Director Brian Ryks says this will be a test of sorts, to see just how many spur-of-the-moment people live in the Northland. "We've never tried something like this before, so we're really curious how many people will show up at the airport, ready to hop on a plane if they win." Ryks is confident there are at least a few "adventurous types" who will be there on Friday night. "Ultimately, the drawing will be a fun way to kick off this great new route."
Phoenix-Mesa is the third top travel destination from the Duluth International Airport. There will be two weekly flights, on Fridays and Mondays. Flights will depart Duluth at 7:45 p.m. and arrive in Phoenix-Mesa at 9:10 p.m. Flights leaving Phoenix-Mesa will depart at 1:55 p.m. and arrive in Duluth at 7:05 p.m.
Phoenix-Mesa is a gateway to all that Arizona has to offer, including the Grand Canyon, Scottsdale, Tempe and Sedona. Not only is the area considered "The Golf Capital of the World," but it's also known as the "Resort Capital of the World," with numerous four- and five-diamond resorts. These premier resort communities feature shopping, dining, spa, activities and luxury accommodations for the perfect getaway to Arizona's unique Southwestern hospitality.
Allegiant also offers direct flights to Las Vegas and Orlando-Sanford. United Express has two daily flights to Chicago-O'Hare, and Delta offers multiple daily flights to Minneapolis/St. Paul and Detroit.
There is a limit of one registration per person and people must be 18 years of age or older to win. Each winner will receive two roundtrip tickets on the inaugural flight and be able to check four pieces of luggage at no charge. The winner will be responsible for their own hotels, ground transportation, meals and other expenses associated with their trip.
